Sunday 9th February
Leaving town we drove out of Dunedin up the coast road via Palmerston, Shag Point and stopped off at the Moeraki Boulders,a bit strange, they looked like Giant's Marbles tossed in the sand. Lots of lovely coast and beaches and rolling farmland.
We stopped at some Maori rock paintings but they were very faint.
Rod trying to find them
We then landed at a little gem called Oamaru, an amazing little Victorian Town on the coast. We stopped for lunch had a quick look round and decided we had to come back. We turned inland at that point and headed for a little place called Omarama in the hills.
We passed lake after lake, and 4 wheel drives with boats on the back all headed the other way to us thankfully, and some tiny places.
At last we reached Omarama, a tiny, I mean tiny, little place in the hills. Stopped at a great camp, walked to the town pub and sat in the sun, it had come out by then.
Places have amazing names don't they. Sun came out very briefly here and then it rained! Parts of the country are very much underwater so we are v lucky.
