Up and on to Christchurch

Tuesday 11th February – Oamaru to Christchurch

We decided to schlepp it up to Christchurch today, which is a longish drive for us.. It is quite  hard to find accommodation in the city since the earthquake,  and opted for a van park about 5kms from the centre, with a good bus service into the city.

We stopped for the loo.... I know it's a giant salmon.... don't ask me?

It was a bit hairy getting there; we are not used to other cars, two lanes, traffic lights, and of course the usual, No Signs, but we persevered and arrived finally

We plumped for it as it was close to the Wigram Airforce Museum (the one we went to in North Island which wasn't there).  I have to say that they do their Museums really well in NZ.  Aircraft to most are a dry subject but it was fascinating, we spoke to a really informative man in the museum, who originally came from Farnham.... small world.

                                                        One for you Harriet

In the evening, we were just about to go for a walk when a black cloud came over, and it started to throw it down. It proceeded to do this all night, so no choice, we had a night in and didn't venture outside the van. Disappointing but hey, it hasn't rained for over a week,so we are doing well here.

Honest it rains here!
